The Building/Zoning Department is performing inspections during this unprecedented time.  To request a trade inspection, please contact the inspectors (Electrical - Dave Venancio, 265-8918, Mechanical & Plumbing, Building Office 401-625-6715) directly.  To schedule a building permit inspection or to speak with someone about a zoning matter, please call the Building Department directly.  You can continue to apply and pay for Building Department permit applications online.  Thank you for your cooperation.  Stay safe.

All applications for permits issued by the Building Department must be submitted online.  This includes permits for demolition, building construction, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and solar work.  Click on the image below to access the online E-Permitting Portal to prepare and submit your application.

To conduct a search of Building Department permit records on the E-Permitting Portal, select Search for Records once you are on the Portal. You do not need to create an account in Viewpoint or log in to perform this search.  You can perform a search by Address, Plat & Lot #, or Record # (this is the permit # that has been assigned to the project), if known.  You can view permit application details as well as any files that are part of the record, as well as the status of the permit.

The Tiverton Code Enforcement Department is located in the town hall at 343 Highland Road and serves the residents of Tiverton in a number of ways. Our three main areas of authority are Building, Zoning and Floodplain Administration.

The department issues building permits, conducts plan reviews and onsite inspections of building projects that range from simple roofing or door replacements to large multifamily and commercial developments.

Likewise, Code Enforcement deals with a wide range of zoning issues including interpreting the Zoning Ordinance, conducting site inspections, monitoring vacant, unoccupied, abandoned, and foreclosed properties, issuing zoning certificates, and guiding applicants through the Variance, Special Use Permit, and appeal processes in conjunction with the Zoning Board of Review.

As Tiverton is a coastal community, this department is also responsible for floodplain administration, helping residents in flood zones navigate through the complexities of the National Flood Insurance Plan. We work closely with the State Floodplain Coordinator and FEMA.  Please click on our Floodplain link (above left) for additional information.

This is just a very small sampling of the responsibilities of the services rendered by the Code Enforcement Department.  Our goal is always to promote the safety, health and well being off the people of Tiverton.
