COMMITTEE MEMBERS

• Debbie Dupont, Vice Chair
• Rachel Melo, Secretary

MISSION:
The TIVERTON RECYCLING COMMITTEE (TRC) shall serve as a clearinghouse of recycling information within the Town.

Our INITIAL MISSION will be to assist the Town in slowing the fill rate of our landfill by improving the Town’s recycling rate through increasing the knowledge of its citizens as to the values and benefits of recycling.

Our ONGOING MISSION will be to enable Tiverton to reach a position of leadership in Rhode Island and New England as it relates to recycling and associated matters of sustainability.

HIGH-LEVEL GOALS:

1. Establish a clear baseline measurement of current recycling rates within town. Using this baseline, create recommendation for target improvement rates over the next 3-5 years. Determine the costs and benefits of implementing and adhering to such a program

2. Continuously raise awareness, educate, and inform all public constituencies on all matters relating to the “Three R’s”– reduce, reuse, and recycle. These constituencies include residents, businesses, Town departments and other related entities.

3. Identify barriers and enablers that either impede or assist the public in correctly and consistently participating in the Town’s recycling programs.

4. Improve partcipation in recycling by Town Administration and Agencies, School Department, and local businesses who may or may not use Town-funded waste removal services.

5. Explore ways for Town to make better use of technology as a means of reducing reliance on resources.

6. Continually benchmark our activities against best practices of other municipalities and recycling advocacy groups.

7. Strive to enable Town to eventually embrace and implement programs that improve our sustainability, including the utilization of renewable resources at all levels.
