Winter is close and most of you have taken your boat out of the water and made it ready for the long New England winter. Well just because your boat is out of the water doesn't mean that you have to stop thinking of the water and boating. Put together a list of things your boat is in need of and show the list to your loved ones, this is a great list for the Christmas season. Bring things indoors that you can tinker with over the winter to have them ready for next season. Take a walk on the beach, lots of things to see and great exercise. Get a membership at a local pool and start swimming; this might help with the water fix. Read a good boating book by a warm fire. Pay your mooring permit renewal. Most importantly take a boaters education course, even if you have in the past, you might be surprised what you may have forgotten or didn't know.

Mooring renewals are due to be sent out by December 15th, but we are still waiting on the new fee schedule before we send them out. They will go out as soon as I know the new Mooring Permit rates.

Remember it is your responsibility to have your mooring inspected. New town ordinances require the mooring holder to have their mooring inspected bi-annually on the year that corresponds with your mooring number, odd-even. Also all inspections must be performed by a qualified commercial authority. To aid you the Harbor department has put together a Mooring Vendor List. The Mooring Vendors List contains vendors approved for installation and inspection of moorings in Tiverton waters. These vendors have an insurance binder on file at the harbormaster's office.

Have you ever wondered what to do with your expired flares? Have you ever wondered what you would do if you had to use your aerial or hand held flares? Now we have the answer. Bring expired flares by shore or by boat and have a qualified member of the Tiverton Harbor Patrol or the Tiverton Fire Department show you the proper way to use your flares and use them safely. It's also a chance to dispose of your expired flares. If you don't have expired flares purchase one handheld and/or one aerial flare to bring to this event. This event will take place on 6/9/2012 at 7-9pm on the north side of Fogland Beach. To participate please contact the Tiverton Harbormaster so that time can be scheduled with you or your vessel.

The Tiverton basin is still a busy place while construction projects are underway so be very careful when transiting the basin.
