Lt. Gerald R. Leduc
May 1, 1956-Aug. 3, 2008

At approximately 1900 hrs. August 3rd 2008 , Lt. Leduc responded to a report of a man who went overboard from a boat into Stafford pond. Lt. Leduc was part of a dive team who was searching for the lost subject when he suddenly had difficulty and went into cardiac arrest. He was rushed back to shore where despite all resuscitative efforts, he succumbed to his injury. He was promoted Posthumously to the rank of Lieutenant. He was also awarded the Tiverton Fire Department Medal of Honor and the Medal of Valor, as well as the I.A.F.F. Medal of Honor for his heroic actions on Stafford Pond.

The Tiverton Fire Fighters Honor Guard and the entire fire department assembled at the funeral home to escort Lt. Leduc to St.Theresa’s Church in Tiverton.

Lt. Leduc is carried to the caisson by the Tiverton Fire Department Honor Guard.

The members of the Wakefield Fire Department and the Portsmouth Fire Department assembled in front Tiverton Station 2 to pay tribute to Lt. Leduc.

Fire Fighter Hadad, carrying Lt. Leduc’s helmet, leads the Rhode Island Fire Fighters Pipes and Drums to St.Theresa’s Church.

 

Chief Lloyd, followed by the officers and the entire Tiverton Fire Department marched to the church with Lt. Leduc.

 

The members offer a hand salute as Lt. Leduc is carried to the caisson by the Tiverton Fire Department Honor Guard.

The Gloves of the members of the Tiverton Fire Department are placed on Lt. Leduc’s casket never to be interned with Lt. Leduc in a final tribute.
